Katelyn graduated from Shepherd University in 2014 with a B.S. degree in biology. She then went on to complete a M.S. degree in biology with a focus on forest ecology at James Madison University. After graduation, Katelyn took a forestry technician internship with the US Fish and Wildlife Service at the Southeastern Louisiana Refuge Complex. During her time in Louisiana, she became a certified Type II Wild-land Firefighter and was able to work on both prescribed burns and wildfires. Upon completion of her internship, Katelyn moved back home to Shepherdstown and joined the Sustainable Solutions team! When not at work, she enjoys spending time at home with her three dogs exploring the woods surrounding her family’s property on the Potomac River. Katelyn is an aspiring farmer, hoping to restart her great-granddaddy’s farm, utilizing organic and sustainable management practices. Sustainable values her knowledge of fire and ecology and is excited to use her on the field!
